Save money with a McDonalds style breakfast fakeaway by making this quick and easy Cheesy Bacon Flatbread recipe at home!
This easy breakfast or brunch recipe is one of several fakeaway McDonalds breakfast recipes I’m sharing today – you can find links to all of them in my overview post: Easy Fakeaway McDonalds Breakfast Recipes.
In this post you’ll find the recipe for our easy Cheesy Bacon Flatbreads. These are really quick and easy to make at home, are a cheaper alternative to eating breakfast out and are always a huge hit with my kids! Currently the restaurant price for a Cheesy Bacon Flatbread is £1.49, but my homemade version costs just 61p each!
I’ve broken down the cost of making an individual flatbread using supermarket ingredients below. I’ve based costs on Tesco prices, purely because that’s my nearest supermarket and the one I use most regularly, but you may well be able to make them even cheaper by shopping around in other supermarkets. Please note that prices are all current at time of publishing but may change in the future.
Here’s how I arrived at my price per flatbread:
6 folded flatbreads £1.20 (20p each)
15 Cheesy Slices 70p (5p each)
14 rashers Streaky Bacon £2.50 (36p for 2 rashers)
One bacon flatbread is made up of; flatbread 20p + cheese 5p + bacon 36p = 61p each.
We served our flatbreads with hash browns (restaurant price: £1.09 vs homemade price: 10p each) and orange juice (restaurant price: £1.49 vs homemade price: 25p).
Fakeaway Cheesy Bacon Flatbreads
Ingredients (makes 1):
2 rashers streaky bacon
1 folded flatbread
1 cheese slice
Method:
Cook the bacon according to pack instructions. I fried ours in a little oil for 3-4 minutes, turning the rashers half-way through.
When the bacon has nearly finished cooking, pop the flatbread in the toaster to lightly toast.
Once warmed through, open up the flatbread and immediately add a cheese slice to one half. Quickly pop the bacon rashers on top of the cheese and close the flatbread, to allow the cheese to melt a little.
For an extra authentic fakeaway experience, wrap your flatbread in a square of baking paper and serve with hash browns and orange juice on the side.
